NORTH BOSTON, N.Y. — For the second week in a row, Penn State Altoona women’s volleyball’s libero Anna Batrus, of Altoona, was selected the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference’s Defensive Player of the Week, as the league office announced its weekly awards on Monday, Sept. 23.
Batrus compiled a team-high 72 digs and averaged 5.54 digs per set during a 2-2 week of non-conference play by the Lions last week.
In a 3-1 victory at home over Lycoming College on Sept. 17, Batrus tied for the match lead in digs, totaling 27. The libero followed that up with six digs in a three-set sweep of Penn College on the road on Sept. 19.
On Sept. 21, Penn State Altoona dropped a pair during a tri-match at Washington & Jefferson College, falling 3-2 to Bethany College and 3-0 to host W&J. Batrus finished with a season-high 32 digs versus Bethany, then added seven digs against W&J.
Through 15 matches this season, Batrus leads all players in the AMCC in digs (263) while ranking second in digs per set (4.78). This is her second AMCC Defensive Player of the Week selection of the season.
Penn State Altoona women’s volleyball is 7-8 this season and returns to action this Wednesday, Sep. 25, hosting non-conference foe Saint Vincent College at 7 p.m. in the Adler Athletic Complex Arena.
